Autumn

Happy fall, y'all!

When I said that my only favorite season was summer, I might have forgotten about the wonderful space of the year that we call autumn. I have been overcome by the aesthetic that Pinterest puts before my eyes, and I can no longer resist the charms of fall.

Fall is so beautiful. The changing of the leaves combines with the crisp air to create a cozy atmosphere that is just irresistible. Nobody can resist going apple picking or wearing infinity scarves and flannel, right? Or am I the only one?... Anyways, here are ten things that I just love and can't get enough of in autumn.

1) Apples and Cider. There are two types of people in this world - those who love New York apples and think they're better than apples from any other state, or those who are wrong. Seriously, who wouldn't prefer Cornell variety Empire Apples over plain old red delicious? Really? And of course, the best apples make the best cider and the best apple pie. Mmmm.

2) Leaves. I know. Everybody says this. It's cliché. But there's something about the fall leaves that just get me every time. The colours are just fantastic, and they always make me so happy. Anyhow, who doesn't love jumping in the leaf pile? Oh - and the colours always pop so much when it's dark and cloudy. It makes for a mysterious atmosphere.

3) Warm Drinks. With the change of seasons and leaves comes a change of weather - so why not drink something warm? In autumn I live for a nice hot cup of anything - hot cider, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, anything that keeps my fingers from turning white. Gee, I wish I had something hot now, because the air conditioning in this darn music building is on full blast! Anyways, warm drinks. Mmmm again.

4) The Aesthetic. Ok, I admit, I'm one of those Pinterest people who loves things that are kind of aesthetic. Fall is one of those things. Everything is so - so - I don't know. Cozy, maybe? I long for endless days when it's kind of chilly out, days when I can curl up on the sofa in a blanket with my complete book of Shakespeare plays and a hot mug of white tea with pear - oh, that sounds much better than an office chair inside a small, freezing room that is painted completely white...

5) My Boots. It's time to break out the seasonal items - boots being one of them. I just love the way I can style my knee-high boots or Bearpaw with anything and feel adorable. They also happen to be very cute and cozy. Fall is all about the cozy.

6) Fall Style. Along the same track as the boots, I love the way one can wear things in fall. Flannel, scarves, jeans, thick sweaters, long sleeved t-shirts that are way too big - all of it is just so fun. Grab a Starbucks along the way, too, and you'll be a basic teenage girl! Ok, I am semi guilty...

7) Chilly Weather. Perhaps I was wrong about the whole "no weather but summer weather" thing, because sometimes it is ok to have a break from the heat. There are plusses to cold weather - warm drinks, fires in the fireplace, sweaters, cozy pajamas - and it's even more convenient for running, because you're not dying of heatstroke!

8) Candles. I don't know about you guys, but I love candles. A lot. Take me to Bath and Body Works and I'll be lost in a paradise of fun fall smells. It adds to the aesthetic, am I right? Do not judge my house for the hoards of candles that we have everywhere... ;)

9) Fire. Whether outside in the firepit or inside by the fireplace, you have to admit that fires are extremely cozy. I love sitting on the couch with my family by the fire, watching a movie and spending quality time together. So fun, so cozy!

10) The Beauty. One thing that I'm really trying to teach myself is that there is beauty in every single thing. It may be hard to spot, but everything has something good about it. I know. Super cliché. It's so true, though! I have a hard time accepting winter and the cold months, as you've seen throughout my journey as a blogger. But this year, fall and the chilly weather have struck me with a sense of majesty and wonder; I really think that God's trying to kick my butt and tell me that I'm wrong, because I find myself pondering the quiet beauty of a snow scene, or cold fall days. I keep thinking of how cool it feels to stand outside a door in costume, waiting to say, "Trick or Treat!" and shiver all the while. There's something about every season of the year and of life that just can't be copied. Sometimes it's ok to be done with summer.

Sorry for that list that ended up as a philosophical rant. But it's fall, y'all, and this year, I intend to soak up every last bit of it.

I promise, more of the trip is coming soon! Just give me a little bit to re-gather my thoughts (from all that algebra homework) and I'll get back at it. Pinky promise.
